A Boca Raton man with a lengthy criminal history was arrested last weekend after city police said they found cocaine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a firearm during a traffic stop near a local restaurant.

Jimmy H. Sun, 36, of Boca Raton, was taken into custody around 1:48 a.m. April 25, 2026, following a pursuit that began when officers observed his white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck fail to stop at a red light at the intersection of N. Federal Highway and NE Mizner Boulevard, according to a police report.

Police said Sun allegedly disregarded emergency lights and sirens, continued driving, and later exited the vehicle in a parking lot west of NE First Avenue before walking away from the officers who were trying to detain him. Officers finally detained Sun at the rear entrance of the Kan Pai restaurant on N. Federal Highway.

During a search of the vehicle, officers reported locating a large clear plastic baggie containing approximately 16.1 grams of an unknown white powdery substance beneath the driver’s seat, two small baggies with a combined 1.2 grams of white powder that field-tested positive for cocaine, and a small baggie with about 1.8 grams of green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana. A blue smoking pipe with burnt residue was also allegedly found on the rear right passenger seat, along with a .9mm CPX-2 handgun in the center console area, police said.

Sun was charged with possession of cocaine, resisting an officer without violence, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana under 20 grams, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. A criminal history check cited in an affidavit filed in court this week indicated Sun has been the subject of 22 felony charges and nine felony convictions.

The incident last weekend marks Sun’s second arrest by Boca Raton police this year. In February, officers arrested him during a traffic stop near Palmetto Park Road and A1A after a police K9 alerted to possible narcotics in his vehicle. That search allegedly uncovered more than 400 grams of cocaine along with other drugs and pills, leading to charges including cocaine trafficking and multiple counts of possession with intent to distribute. Those charges remain pending, and court records indicated his next appearance – for a status check to be conducted via Zoom – in that case was scheduled for May 13, 2026.

Sun was released from the Palm Beach County Jail after spending about three days in custody. He posted a total bond of $18,500 for the four separate charges.
