Boca Raton Cops Arrest Man With 400 Grams of Cocaine Near Beach

Boca Raton police said a man arrested following a traffic stop near a public beach on Thursday was carrying more than 400 grams of cocaine as well as a slew of other drugs, according to a police report filed with the court.

The Boca Raton Police Department’s tactical team was conducting a crime suppression detail when narcotics detectives noticed a white Toyota pickup truck fail to stop at an intersection near Palmetto Park Road and A1A, just south of South Beach Park. The vehicle was stopped at about 4:30 p.m., at which point a K9 officer arrived for backup and conducted an open air sweep and indicated that drugs may have been in the vehicle.

Jimmy Sun, 36, of Boca Raton, was detained while the vehicle was searched. According to the police report from the incident, officers found six bags of suspected cocaine in the center console, and another baggie that appeared to contain 64 grams of cocaine stuffed between the center console and one of the seats. A backpack was eventually located behind the driver’s seat with another 11 bags of suspected cocaine, plus 29 grams of an unknown purple substance, a bag with an unknown blue power, 63 Adderall pills, 12 oxycodone pills and other quantities of powers and pills, plus another package that allegedly contained 319 grams of of cocaine.

In all, police recovered 431.4 grams of cocaine, 1.4 grams of MDMA, 32.8 grams of amphetamines, and the 12 oxycodone pills.



Sun was charged with cocaine trafficking, and several charges consisting of possession with intent to distribute various illegal substances. He was also issued a citation for the traffic violation. Sun was being held in the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of a combined $400,000 bail on all of the charges. The pickup truck was towed.
