Cops: Boca Raton Man Threw Rocks At Multiple Vehicles, Told Police He ‘Crashed Out’

A Boca Raton man was arrested Thursday evening after police said he threw rocks at several vehicles near the intersection of Camino Real and Dixie Highway, damaging at least two cars and drawing complaints from multiple drivers.

Kristian A. Rivers, 29, faces two counts of throwing a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle, one count of criminal mischief and one count of consuming alcohol in a public place, according to the Boca Raton Police Department. Officers were called to the area after several people reported that a man was throwing rocks at passing and parked vehicles, the report said. Callers described the suspect as a Hispanic man wearing a black hoodie and black pants.

Boca Raton’s Real Time Crime Center, using security feeds, directed officers to a man matching the description near a shopping plaza at 1001 SW 2nd Ave., though the arresting officer noted the man was wearing a brown hoodie and pants rather than black. When officers approached, the man allegedly took a drink from a bottle of Jägermeister, and the officer reported detecting the odor of alcohol. Police said they found three rocks in the pockets of his hoodie. He was identified as Rivers and taken into custody.

According to police, one driver said Rivers threw a rock that struck and dented the trunk of his car as he pulled into a parking lot. A witness told officers he saw Rivers swing at the same vehicle and heard glass break. A second driver told officers she was turning from Dixie Highway onto Camino Real when a man in the roadway pulled what appeared to be rocks from his pocket and threw them at her car as she passed. She said she later found damage to her front right wheel, which she estimated at $300. She identified Rivers in a police show-up as the man responsible, according to the report.

Officers said a third victim’s parked BMW sustained a cracked rear windshield. The vehicle’s owner was not present at the time, but a witness told police by phone that he saw a man matching Rivers’ description swing at the back windshield and heard it shatter. The witness reportedly took photos of the suspect leaving the area, which police said matched Rivers.

After Rivers was read his constitutional rights, he allegedly admitted to throwing rocks at both moving and parked vehicles, telling officers he had hit “three or four” vehicles. Police said he did not offer an explanation beyond saying he was angry and had “crashed out.”

Rivers remained lodged in the Palm Beach County Jail on Friday in lieu of $9,000 combined bail for four charges.
