Boca Raton Beach Gatehouses Will Go ‘Cashless’ Starting Oct. 1

Beach park gatehouses in Boca Raton will stop accepting cash for parking payments starting Oct. 1, the city announced.

Visitors paying at the gatehouses will need to use a credit card, debit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay instead. City officials said fewer than 17 percent of gatehouse transactions currently involve cash, with most visitors already paying electronically.

City officials said the switch to cashless payments is intended to speed up transactions, cut down on cash handling at the gatehouses and improve payment security and accountability.

Residents with a valid beach parking permit will not be affected by the change and can continue accessing city beach parks as usual.

The city said signs will be posted at beach park entrances ahead of the Oct. 1 change, and gatehouse attendants will remind visitors who currently pay with cash.
