Boca Raton residents are invited to discuss public safety priorities with city leaders at the next “Let’s Talk Boca: Conversations with Your City Manager” event Wednesday evening.

City Manager Mark Sohaney will host the open forum from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Spanish River Library, located at 1501 NW Spanish River Blvd. Attendees can meet new Police Chief Jarad Phelps, Fire Rescue Services Chief John Treanor and Deputy City Manager and Chief Financial Officer Jim Zervis.

The discussion will cover the city’s public safety services and priorities, include an overview of the Police Services Complex, and give residents a chance to ask questions and engage directly with leadership. City leaders are currently in the midst of debating plans for a new police station after a proposal to bond $175 million to fund a new facility near the library was rejected by voters earlier this year. Some residents have said they would support a scaled-back version of the original plan, while others have voiced the opinion that they would rather see the police headquarters remain downtown.

Police and public officials have also pledged to tackle reports of the presence of homeless people in city parks and other areas – primarily downtown – that have caused concern among many residents.
