Police presence continued all day Monday near the scene in Boca Raton where multiple shooters exited a vehicle and targeted a woman getting into her car on Sunday.

By 4 p.m., most units had cleared the scene, but several Boca Raton police SUVs remained parked along the 400 block of NE 2nd Court, just north of the intersection of Glades Road and Federal Highway. Another SUV stood guard about block away near the intersection of Dixie Highway and NE 15th Terrace.

According to police, a female victim got into her vehicle in a parking lot on the street at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, and was fired upon by multiple shooters, who were waiting inside a nearby white Mercedes-Benz. Though the victim did sustain a gunshot wound, she was able to flee in her vehicle, proceeding westbound on Glades Road, police said. The White Mercedes briefly pursued, but called off their chase before she reached the hospital nearby.

“The individual was targeted,” police said in a statement, adding that there was no threat to the general public. The victim was identified only by her initials in accordance with department policy.

The area of the road that was blocked off for hours, and continued to be the subject of an investigation Monday, was roughly located in the center of the 400 block of NE 2nd Court. Alarmingly to some nearby residents, the parking lot is virtually surrounded by churches and schools, including the Friendship Baptist Church and Torah Academy of Boca Raton. Children at a summer camp at the end of the street were enjoying their day Monday as police officers combed through the parking lot and adjacent area for evidence.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information on it is being asked to contact Boca Raton Police Detective Hanley at 561-338-1344.
