A 23-year-old man was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery after authorities say he struck a man during a dispute over shoes at a Boca Raton bus stop.

Tyquan Milton Davis, of Miami, was taken into custody following the June 6 incident at the bus stop on 1750 Butts Road, according to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Boca Raton Police Department. According to the report, officers responded around 8:15 a.m. to a report of an altercation that had left a man injured. The alleged victim told police he and his girlfriend were crossing Butts Road when they noticed a pair of tennis shoes on a bench that appeared to fit her. As she tried them on, Davis was said to have approached them.

The victim said a verbal argument ensued for about 60 seconds. He offered to return the shoes, turned his back and began walking away when he felt an impact to the back of his head, the report said, causing him to fall forward and strike his face on a trash can. He was unsure how Davis allegedly struck him, the report went on to say.

The victim suffered a severe laceration approximately one-half inch wide and six inches long to the back of his head, along with a minor laceration between his eyebrows from the fall. He was transported to Boca Raton Regional Hospital for treatment, including multiple stitches. Photos of the injuries were taken as evidence.

Davis was walking nearby and, after being located by officers, “spontaneously” told police he had been in the area and that the shoes belonged to him. He claimed he felt the need to defend himself because the victim was much larger, according to the report. Officers observed no visible injuries on Davis, the report said.

Davis was freed from the Palm Beach County Jail after posting $2,500 bond.
