A 30-year-old Orlando man was arrested early Monday on a felony battery charge after authorities said he repeatedly punched another man in the face during a brutal altercation at a treatment facility, causing serious injuries.
was taken into custody around 11:30 p.m. on May 4 and charged with felony battery causing great bodily harm, according to a Boca Raton Police Department report. Officers were called shortly after 2 a.m. to the Banyan Treatment Center on NW 15th Street for a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, the victim was already being transported by EMTs to Boca Raton Regional Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
According to documents filed in court this week, the victim told investigators that a man, later identified as Sheffield, became involved in a verbal altercation with him before swinging at him with a closed fist and striking him in the face at least three times. He suffered an orbital fracture and a broken jaw, the report said. The report also stated several witnesses provided sworn statements that corroborated the victim’s account. Sheffield was found by officers to have had a bloody wound on his left knuckle that was “consistent with striking someone,” according to the report.
Sheffield was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail where he remained Wednesday in lieu of $10,000 bail.
