A 90-year-old woman was struck and killed by an SUV driven by her neighbor as she stepped from her driveway into the roadway last week, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Sandra Friedman, 90, of Planters Point Drive, was pronounced dead at Delray Medical Center after the 1:09 p.m. crash. The driver, Harriet Rosenberger, 83, of a nearby address on the same street, was not injured. According to a report issued by the sheriff’s traffic division, Rosenberger was operating a 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee and maneuvering around a left-hand curve near Friedman’s residence when Friedman stepped into the road from her driveway. The front-right side of the vehicle struck Friedman, who was thrown to the ground and complained of hip pain before being transported for treatment. She later died at the hospital.
The incident occurred in the Boca West Country Club development, located in unincorporated Boca Raton. Alcohol and drugs were not indicated as factors in the initial report. No charges had been filed; the investigation remains ongoing, according to sheriff’s records.
