A Lake Worth man was arrested Tuesday evening on charges of domestic battery, two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer with violence after allegedly choking and striking a woman in a vehicle at a Boca Raton treatment center, according to a police report.
Dwayne James Ramcharan, 46, was taken into custody about 7:45 p.m. April 7 in the parking lot of the Banyan Treatment Center, on NW 15th Street, according to a police report.
A behavioral health technician at the facility told police she saw Ramcharan holding the victim in a chokehold with his right arm while repeatedly striking her with his left closed fist inside a white sedan. The victim was allegedly heard screaming “let me go” and trying to escape through the passenger door and sunroof, the report stated. The technician alerted other staff, who called police.
When officers arrived, Ramcharan allegedly refused commands to stay on his stomach, actively resisted by tucking his hands beneath his body, and was eventually handcuffed. During the struggle, he kicked one officer in the left knee as the officer reached for a mobile phone in Ramcharan’s pocket and later spat at and swung at another officer, the affidavit said.
Ramcharan was charged with domestic violence battert, two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, and resisting an officer with violence. He was transported to the Palm Beach County Jail.
Ramcharan remained lodged in the Palm Beach County Jail on Friday in lieu of a combined $15,000 bail on the four charges.
