A 22-year-old Boca Raton man is alleged to have admitted shattering the door of a city business and stealing vape products after they would not sell them to him during normal business hours since he was underage at the time. He also admitted to a second burglary, according to a police report.
Marckendy Joseph, 20, was linked to the early morning burglary of the Smoking Loud vape shop on NW 2nd Avenue by DNA testing performed at the crime scene, court documents stated. The burglary occurred Oct. 11, 2025 at 1:58 a.m., during which a suspect shattered the front door of the business, entered the store, and was seen on security video stealing a number of vaping products.
The store’s owner told investigating officers that he suspected Joseph may have been behind the incident, however the video did not clearly show the perpetrator. According to a police report, the video showed the smashing of the front door, then reaching in and opening it by its handle. The suspect, wearing a “dark colored hoodie, dark pants and a colorful backpack,” took items and concealed them in his pockets before leaving the store through the same doorway. The suspect left behind fingerprints and blood, which was linked to Joseph after a police department in Broward County, in March, scored a DNA hit on an unrelated crime for which Joseph was the suspect. At that point, a DNA search warrant was approved for the Boca Raton investigation. Meanwhile,
Joseph was located by members of the Boca Raton Police Department’s tactical team on April 4, 2026, where he was arrested and read his Miranda rights. According to the police report, Joseph allegedly admitted to the burglary of Smoking Loud, as well as a similar burglary of a different vape shop, The Hook Up on NW 20th Street. He is alleged to have told officers he committed the crimes because the stores would not sell him certain items that are age-restricted.
Joseph is charged with robbery without a firearm and burglary of an unoccupied building. He remained lodged in the Palm Beach County Jail on Wednesday in lieu of a combined $10,000 bail.
