A Boca Raton man was behind bars Tuesday night following his arrest on charges of “years” of sexual abuse of a minor under his care.

Marcos Alfredo Soba Vega, 34, was arrested Monday after his alleged victim – who was between the ages of 12 and 18 – came forward with allegations of sexual assault two days earlier. The identity of the person who made the initial report was kept confidential, as was the name of the victim. The victim said the series of sexual assaults lasted three years and were violent in nature, with a police report stating Soba Vega had physically restrained her using “sexual restraint equipment,” sometimes on multiple occasions per day.

The report included shocking and explicit details of the alleged assaults, which have not been included in this story. The latest alleged assault occurred Dec. 26, the report stated, causing injuries to the victim.

Police conducted interviews and set up a controlled phone call and text message chain between the suspect and victim, with Soba Vega allegedly telling her to “erase that text, you hear me?” after one such exchange. A physician, the report stated, confirmed signs of activity which supported the victim’s account.

When interviewed by police after his arrest Tuesday, Soba Vega denied the allegations and requested an attorney, according to the report. He remains lodged in the Palm Beach County Jail on charges of sexual assault and battery of a victim between the ages of 12 and 18. He was being held without bail. A conviction under the statute could result in a sentence up to life in prison.
