An East Boca park with aging playground equipment will be getting a major upgrade following the decision of the city council to award a contract for the construction of a new playground facility.
The city awarded a $1,276,532 contract to MBR Construction, Inc. for the equipment and construction of the new playground at Lake Wyman Park, located at 1500 NE 5th Avenue. After a notice to proceed is transmitted to the contractor, the playground must be constructed within 150 days.
Discussions on the replacement of the Lake Wyman Park playground facility began in late 2023 and continued through 2024. In may 2025, plans were completed and the project was placed out to bid. Four firms bid on the project. The playground renovation project is federally funded and consists of the demolition of existing playground structures, rubber surfacing and chain-link fence with posts. It also includes the installation of new playground equipment with an integrated shade structure, new benches and trash cans, the installation of new poured-in-place rubber surfacing and mulch, and restoration of an pavilion structure.
The playground will include an early childhood section, an agility park, swingsets, a swing with an ADA-accessible seat, drums, a “boat springer” ride, and will include improvements to the grounds nearby.
