A bicyclist was struck and killed along Congress Avenue in Boynton Beach Friday night, authorities said, as they investigate the potential that a driver involved in the crash may have been impaired.
The bycyclist, Juan Rolando Villeda Rivera, 31, of Boynton Beach, was killed after being struck by a vehicle at S. Congress Avenue and Buccaneer Road in Boynton Beach. According to a statement from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the bicyclist was traveling southwest across South Congress Avenue at Buccaneer Road when he was struck by a 2021 Toyota Venza being driven by Angelo Ismael Munguia, 24, of Boynton Beach.
The report states that the vehicle was traveling southbound in the inside lane. The report also stated that either alcohol or drugs were believed to have been a factor, however court records show no charges have yet been filed related to the case.
Rivera, the bicyclist, was pronounced dead at JFK Hospital after being transported there from the scene.
