According to a short statement issued by the department, firefighters were called to a blaze at 1005 S. Congress Avenue at about 6 a.m. During the response, a deceased person was discovered in a storage closet. The area was cordoned off by police while an investigation is underway, the statement said.
Located near the corner of Lowson Boulevard behind the Valero gas station off I-95, the shopping plaza contains numerous small stores, including a food market, tax service, laundromat, an auto parts store and a Haitian restaurant. It borders a self-storage facility to the south.
