A 21-year-old Boca Raton resident has been charged under Florida’ “Super Speeder” law after allegedly driving 98 m.p.h. while weaving in and out of traffic on a local road.
Pedro Henrique Dama Oliveira, 21, caught the attention of a Boca Raton police officer at 8:57 a.m. while he was driving eastbound on Yamato Road. Oliveira’s Infiniti G37 was “cutting in and out of heavy traffic” and failing to signal, a police report said, and was allegedly clocked at a speed of 98 m.p.h. by a laser unit in the police vehicle.
According to the police report, Oliveira allegedly told an officer he “thought he was only going 85” due to “an issue with [his] speedometer” and was late to work.
The “Super Speeder” law, which went into effect in July 2025, upgrades excessive speeding to a criminal misdemeanor rather than a traffic ticket. It applies to those driving 50 m.p.h. over the limit or 100 m.p.h. regardless of the speed limit, punishable by up to 90 days in jail, a 1-year license suspension, and fines up to $2,500 for a first offense.
Oliveira, a Brazilian national, was released from the Palm Beach County Jail after posting a $500 cash bond.
