The Boca Raton nurse who was fired by Baptist Health last week after posting a graphic rant wishing painful medical complications on White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt has had her state nursing license suspended, officials announced Wednesday. Meanwhile, she has continued to garner scrutiny after the discovery of new videos some believe to be disturbing in nature, including one that references a “death cult” and was posted with a hashtag associated with threats against the president.
Alexis “Lexie” Backer Lawler, a West Boca resident and former labor and delivery nurse at Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital, has had her nursing license suspended, according to state Attorney General James Uthmeier. In his own social media post, Uthmeier stated that “being fired isn’t good enough” when it comes to a healthcare worker who “fails to uphold his or her obligation to provide adequate, safe healthcare.”
The Florida Board of Nursing took disciplinary action against Lawler’s license on Wednesday, filing an “Emergency Suspension Order” which prevents her from practicing in Florida. Lawler’s license could be suspended for an additional time period or fully revoked after an administrative process before the board, but as of Wednesday, her license is no longer valid statewide.
“Making statements that wish pain and suffering on anyone, when those statements are directly related to one’s practice, is an ethical red line we should not cross,” Uthmeier said, thanking state Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo for overseeing the case.
Last week, Lawler came under scrutiny after posting a video wishing severe medical complications on Leavitt, who recently announced she is pregnant. She said she she hoped Leavitt, 28, would suffer a severe “fourth degree tear during childbirth.” She went on to state that she hopes Leavitt “f*cking rips from bow to stern” and has lifelong complications that would cause her to have problems defecating for the remainder of her life. She then used additional vulgar language to end the rant.
“Registered nurses must be able to provide treatment to all patients regardless of who the patient may be and regardless of the patient’s political beliefs,” a copy of the suspension order, obtained by Boca Daily News, states. “Registered nurses are placed in a position of trust; therefore, registered nurses must possess good judgment and good moral character.”
“Lawler’s personal hatred and sincere hope for harm o f a vile and graphic nature to a pregnant woman shows that Lawler has little regard for the safety and well-being of others, including her patients, lacks good judgment, and is not capable o f caring for patients in a manner that is effective and safe,” the order continued. “Therefore, Lawler’s continued practice as a registered nurse presents an immediate, serious danger to the health, welfare, and safety of the public.”
In the days since, Lawler has been found to have made other shocking posts, including a video that infers supporters of President Donald Trump are members of a “death cult” who should take their own lives.
“Remember when the death cults used to just drink the Kool Aid and then die, and leave use the f*** alone?” she asked. “Why can’t we go back to that? I just wanna go back to that. Please?”
Lexie, the nurse who was fired after wishing severe childbirth injuries on Karoline Leavitt, also posted this video hoping for people to die with hashtag “8647”
