Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer will represent the city by throwing out the ceremonial first at the Miami Marlins’ Sept. 7 home game.
The high-profile toss by the mayor will come as part of “Boca Raton Day” at loanDepot Park in Miami. As part of the event, residents can purchase tickets to the game – against the Philadelphia Phillies – in a special section behind first base for a discounted price.
The Marlins will take on the Phillies, who have snatched first place in the National League East standings out from under the New York Mets, in a late-season matchup that could have implications for post-season berths across the division. The Marlins themselves are currently in third place in the NL East, but are close to clawing their way back to .500 with a 55-56 record as of Aug. 5. They are eight games back in the division and 6.5 games out of the wild card race.
Tickets for the game are $28.50 and can be purchased from a page set up on the city’s website. The game begins at 1:40 p.m., and residents are encouraged to arrive early to see the first pitch.
