Boca Raton Woman Charged With Throwing Rocks at Passing Cars

A 30-year-old woman faces two felony charges after police said she threw rocks at vehicles traveling along Federal Highway, shattering one windshield and damaging another car.

Yasmeen Sheri Cornish, of Boca Raton, was arrested Sept. 12 on two counts of throwing a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle, according to a Boca Raton police arrest report. According to the document, filed in court this week, officers responded about 10:19 p.m. to a disturbance in the 2100 block of North Federal Highway, outside The Hen and The Hog restaurant. Officers detained a woman in a black hoodie and black shorts who was allegedly throwing objects at moving traffic and who was later identified by her Florida identification card as Cornish.

Two drivers told police they were heading south in the right lane when objects struck their vehicles, according to the report. A passenger in one car said he did not see the object thrown but heard it hit the vehicle. The driver of that car reported seeing Cornish make movements that looked like dancing before allegedly throwing an object that struck the lower right side of the windshield, sending glass into the passenger compartment. Damage was estimated at $2,000.

The driver of a second vehicle said he heard a loud noise and thought his car had “blown up,” the report said. That vehicle was damaged along the rear passenger door and tire well, with damage estimated at about $2,500.

Both drivers identified Cornish at the scene while she was in handcuffs, according to the report. Another officer recovered two stones from the roadway that police said matched the damage to one of the cars.

Cornish was taken to Boca Raton Regional Hospital, where she told an officer after being read her rights that she had thrown stones at passing vehicles because she felt she was being followed and had heard voices threatening her, the report said. She told officers she could not recall which vehicles she struck.

Cornish remained lodged in the Palm Beach County Jail on Monday in lieu of $2,000 bail.
