Boca Raton officials have approved an indoor golf simulator center to operate out of an existing office building in the northern portion of town, the latest repurposing of unused office space for recreation.
The city council, at its final meeting in March, unanimously voted to approve the application by DB Golf to open its facility at the office center at 6501 and 6531 Park of Commerce Boulevard, just off Clint Moore Road. The 3,263 square foot facility was approved as a conditional use in the building, which measures 19,862 square feet.
According to the company’s application, the business will operate as an indoor golf simulation center that will be used exclusively as a private, membership-only facility. The facility expects to have four indoor golf simulator bays that will provide indoor golf experiences for its members. The facility will operate on a 24/7 basis, with members having access via a personal secure card fob. A tee-time reservation system will be used to regulate usage and prevent overcrowding, the application said, and walk-up services will not be allowed.
The facility will be staffed during normal business hours, however remote monitoring is provided 24 hours a day. No food, beverages, or alcohol will be served at the facility, and all of its operations will be conducted indoors. The golf center will also add a new ADA-compliant parking space and curb ramp outside.
The facility had previously won the endorsement of the city’s planning board. At that meeting, it was clarified that the plans themselves were being approved rather than the specific sport that would be hosted there. If, for some reason, golf was replaced with another sporting activity, the approval would remain in place, however a change in use would require a new application to the city. The property, as a whole, is required to have 177 parking spaces, where as 178 spaces already exist.
