A go-to bakery and cafe that has made its mark over the last decade in three of the five boroughs of New York City is opening its sixth location in downtown Boca Raton.

Black Star Bakery and Cafe is readying its location at Royal Palm Place near the corner of SE 1st Street and Plaza Real South. Its five locations within New York – three in Manhattan and on each in Brooklyn and Queens – are known for their large assortment of coffees and espressos, iced drinks and bagels. But the cafe also serves a wide variety of croissants – including staples like egg and cheese, smoked salmon and avocado – plus specials ranging from a breakfast burrito, to a Belgian waffle, to a scrambled egg plate (Sriracha version optional!).

Founded in 2014 by Israeli immigrants Dan and Odehel Magor, the first Black Star opened its doors in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The business blossomed into a five-location chain – each location is known as a “branch” – that is designed to maintain its local theme. Odehel, an architect by trade, personally designs each space, crafting airy, photogenic interiors with big windows, clean lines, porcelain counters and inviting patios or peaceful backyards — one even filled with the chirp of birds that makes visitors feel “homey and peaceful,” as one online review described.

Staff members are known for remembering the orders of regular customers and being a cheery face in the morning (or early afternoon). Prices remain particularly approachable for the quality — most pastries and drinks hover in the $4–$8 range, with sandwiches and meals around $8–$15.

The opening date for Black Star has yet to be announced, however work at the store is progressing and its social media account has shared a few photos of the goings-on inside. Previously, the owners said via social media that the location would be opening in early 2026.
