Boca Raton police have charged a Pompano Beach woman in the shocking assault of a victim on Spanish River Boulevard after she allegedly rear-ended her vehicle while driving recklessly on the highway.

Alexis Chante Martin, 36, is facing charges of battery, damage to property and robbery after the Jan. 10, 2026 incident that was sparked by the accident, which occurred near the intersection of Spanish River Boulevard and Airport Road. Police first became involved after receiving a report of a physical altercation between a two people described as a black woman and a white woman, but initially found no one in the area that was reported. A short time later, the alleged victim reported the incident to officers, ultimately leading to Martin’s arrest.

According to a police report, officers arrived at an office building where they found the caller “flushed with visible fresh red marks on the left side of her face,” bleeding from one finger with another finger nail removed. The woman told officers that she was driving northbound on 1-95 when a Honda Civic was driving recklessly and eventually struck the rear driver’s side of her own vehicle, which was also a Honda Civic. The woman whose car was hit pulled behind the other vehicle and snapped a photo of its license plate while honking to attempt to get the driver to pull over, but the driver – later identified as Martin – allegedly took off.

The victim followed, the report said, with both cars exiting onto Spanish River Boulevard. The vehicle believed to have caused the accident pulled over, with the allegedly victim pulling behind her. When she got out to speak with the other driver, “the suspect became argumentative and stated Anna had caused the crash instead,” the report said. When the victim took another photo of the suspect vehicle, Martin allegedly charged at the driver, pushed her backward, and forcibly removed her iPhone from her hand. The suspect is then accused of throwing the phone “forcefully onto the ground, shattering it,” after which she “threw [the victim] to the ground and repeatedly punched her in the face.”

As the altercation continued, Martin allegedly dragged the woman across the pavement by her hair, causing abrasions to her elbows, until she grabbed Martin by the hair, removing what police believe to have been a weave that was attached to Martin’s head. The suspect is alleged to have then thrown the victim’s phone on the ground a second time before driving off. The victim drove to the office nearby, where she worked, and called police with the help of a friend.

The license plate number of the suspect vehicle was registered to Martin, the police report said, and she matched the description of the suspect provided to police in both the initial call and as the victim described. The victim later identified Martin in a lineup, and DNA samples were taken to confirm the identity of the other party in the altercation.

Martin was taken into custody at Boca Raton police headquarters and brought to the Palm Beach County Jail, where she remained for slightly over 24 hours before being freed on a combined $9,000 bond.
