Boca Raton police are continuing their investigation into Monday’s fatal crash between a Brightline passenger train and a pickup truck that claimed the life of the truck’s driver.
Police on Tuesday afternoon identified the victim as Alexis Natanael Villatoro Gaspar, 30, of Margate, Fla. Gaspar was killed when his Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck was struck by the train at the railroad crossing at SW 18th Street at about 5:30 p.m. According to police, Gaspar was traveling eastbound on SW 18th Street and stopped on the railroad tracks. A northbound Brightline train struck the passenger side of the vehicle, causing it to roll several times, before coming to a final rest in the embankment between the railroad tracks and S Dixie Highway.
Gaspar was transported to a local hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle, police said.
