Boca Raton Woman Accused of Stealing $1,400 in Shirts From Department Store

A 60-year-old Boca Raton woman was arrested last week after she allegedly stole nearly $1,500 worth of high-end shirts from a Neiman Marcus store, according to a Boca Raton Police Department report.

City resident Virginia Viera was taken into custody Aug. 19 and charged with grand theft of property valued between $750 and $5,000, a third-degree felony under Florida law, the report states.

Police said an officer responded at about 3:05 p.m. that day to the Neiman Marcus at the Boca Town Center mall after a report of shoplifting. A store asset protection employee told investigators that Viera had selected four items of clothing, bypassed all points of sale without paying, and was then confronted and detained in the store’s asset protection office.

The items, described as luxury pieces with price tags reflecting their designer status, were listed in the probable cause affidavit as a “Butterfly Embroidered Sleeveless Top” valued at $500.99; a “Floral Knit Cardigan” valued at $428; a “short pull-on satin skirt” valued at $328; and a “Mara Lapel Relax” valued at $198.

The total value of the merchandise was $1,454.99, according to the affidavit. Photos of the items and itemized receipts, along with surveillance video, were uploaded to a police database.
