A 61-year-old Boca Raton man lured a 14-year-old boy to a park for a sexual encounter, but it turned out the teen was actually an undercover police officer, authorities charged in court documents.

David Scott Robertson, 61, was arrested at Jaycee Park in Boynton Beach on Jan. 24, 2026 after allegedly showing up to meet the police officer who he believed to be a 14-year-old boy based on an exchange a day earlier. Robertson engaged in a conversation with the undercover officer on the Sniffies app, which is designed for gay and bisexual men to meet in public spaces and track users’ locations so they can be identified in person, the court filing stated.

A police report chronicled the graphic, lewd messages allegedly sent by Robertson to the teen, which have been withheld from this story due to their explicit nature. Following the exchange, a meetup was arranged at the park, located on S. Federal Highway, just after 1 p.m. Jan. 24. According to the report, the undercover officer sent a text message to Robertson telling him to meet in a restroom, however Robertson changed course on the way and began walking in another direction, ultimately being taken into custody by Boynton Beach police.

The police report said Robertson admitted to sending the text messages and coming to the park to meet the person he believed to be a teen for a sexual encounter after being read his Miranda rights.

Robertson was charged with obscene communication, traveling to lure an underage person, using a computer to seduce or lure a child, and using a communications device to facilitate a felony. Robertson was freed on a combined bail of $155,000 after spending about two days in custody at the Palm Beach County Jail, records showed.
