A local boater has been charged with multiple criminal offenses after allegedly striking the Woolbright Avenue bridge and a nearby dock while operating a vessel in the Intracoastal Waterway, then fleeing the scene even after a passenger was ejected into the water. His boat ultimately sank near the George Bush Boulevard bridge in Delray Beach while under tow.
Michael Dority Gee, 28, of Delray Beach, remained lodged in the Palm Beach County Jail on Tuesday following the Sunday, Dec. 28, 2025 accident. A police report filed by an officer with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said he arrived at the bridge, which spans the ICW, after receiving a call at 7:17 p.m. from local authorities. Boynton Beach Fire-Rescue responders were already on scene, monitoring a dog that had been plucked from the water and the sunken vessel.
According to witnesses who spoke to the FWC officer – later confirmed with video surveillance footage – Gee allegedly struck the Woolbright Avenue bridge, then crashed into private dock pilings on the opposite side, ejecting a female passenger. He then fled the scene without calling for help, the report stated. Patrons at the nearby Prime Catch restaurant, who had come to dinner in their own boat, sprung into action and followed Gee as he continued down the ICW. The Good Samaritans helped Gee and his passenger, both of whom were airlifted to the Delray Medical Center.
The woman who was ejected from the vessel was said to have suffered injuries to her back, arms foot and head. TowBoatUS arrived on scene to tow the boat out of the channel, though it eventually sank near the George Bush Boulevard bridge, which also spans the ICW. A description of the boat was not included in the report.
Gee was interviewed by investigators at the hospital, the report said. The extent of his injuries was unknown.
Gee is charged with leaving the scene of a leaving the scene of a vessel accident with injuries and leaving the scene of a vessel accident with property damage. He was being held in lieu of a combined $30,000 bail on the two charges.
