A multi-agency enforcement sweep to crack down on uninsured drivers resulted in more than 100 citations and warnings being issued after 419 traffic stops over a five hour period.
The enforcement detail was carried out Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to a statement released by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office yesterday. The sheriff’s department, along with the Criminal Investigation Division of the Florida Department of Financial Services, Boynton Beach Police Department, Lantana Police Department, and Delray Beach Police Department all participated.
“The purpose of this operation was to reduce the rising costs of insurance to the public by enforcement of the laws governing uninsured motorists, insurance misrepresentation and insurance fraud,” PBSO said.
Results of the operation included:
- 419 Traffic Stops
- 1 Misdemeanor Arrest
- 21 Criminal Citations
- 406 Traffic Citations (including 73 no proof on insurance citations)
- 326 Traffic Warnings (including 40 no proof of insurance warnings)
The enforcement detail comes as Gov. Ron DeSantis announced several car insurance providers were lowering rates in Florida thanks to a number of new laws seeking to crack down on fraud and what some have characterized as out-of-control litigation between drivers and insurance companies.
