Boca Raton police have charged a South Florida woman with swinging a hammer at children while standing in a city intersection following multiple complaints regarding the woman’s behavior.

The suspect, Jaimie Borys, 29, of Ft. Lauderdale, was taken into custody Dec. 26, 2025 after police were called to a location near the intersection of Federal Highway and SE 9th Street at 9:21 p.m. The victim, a minor, told officers that the woman was initially approaching a vehicle that was on the roadway, but as he stopped to record with his phone, she began to “charge” at him. The teen said the woman raised the hammer as she came toward him, but a police officer arrived in time and intervened.

Officers also spoke with the driver of the vehicle that was allegedly threatened, who had made the initial call for help. He said the woman, later identified as Borys, was standing in the middle of the roadway and, as he put his car into reverse to go around her, approached the vehicle with the hammer. Her attention later is alleged to have turned to the minor, he said.

“During questioning, Borys initially denied having possession of a hammer, but later stated that she had a hammer in her hand because the victim threatened to kill her,” a police report said, noting that there was no evidence of anyone threatening the woman, which was backed up by video of the incident.

The police report said a similar complaint – a woman swinging a hammer in an intersection – was called into the department about three hours earlier. Borys faces an additional charge after being accused of spitting at a Boca Raton police officer through the window of the car in which she was detained.

Borys was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, and batter on emergency personnel. She remained lodged in the Palm Beach County Jail on Jan. 5 in lieu of a combined $40,000 bail.
