A man who worked for a now-defunct tax preparation service used his access to client data to divert money to his personal bank account, police said Tuesday, following the arrest of Marius St. Gerard, 38, of Clearwater.

According to a statement issued by police, St. Gerard was found to have accessed dozens of client files while in a managerial position at CLR Admin Services, changed their email addresses to his own and altered records of their bank account information to reflect his own account information. He then cancelled files and electronically signed forms that were sent to his email to initiate a refund, and the money was routed to his own account, the statement said.

The investigation began in November 2023, when a suspicious alert from the company’s banking partner led to an internal review of client files. A discrepancy with an account was spotted, which “also pointed to St. Gerard’s wrongdoing,” and the owner proceeded to notify Boca Raton police, according to the statement.

“Further investigation by Economic Crimes Detective Randa White revealed the true nature of St. Gerard’s fraudulent dealings was far more extensive,” police said. “St. Gerard had spread the money he fraudulently obtained across more than a dozen debit cards, which were used for airline tickets, car payments and other personal expenses.”

St. Gerard is charged with organized fraud of $50,000 or more, fraudulent use of personal I.D. information – including deceased victims – fraudulent use of personal I.D. information in the amount of $50,000 or more; affecting 20 to 30 individuals, grand theft, forgery and money laundering. Boca Raton Police obtained an arrest warrant for St. Gerard, who was arrested in Clearwater by Clearwater police officer on Nov. 18, 2025. He has since been extradited to the Palm Beach County Jail. He is currently being in lieu of a combined $275,000 bail on all of the pending charges.
