A man is accused of fleeing a Boca Raton police officer onto I-95 after being signaled to pull over at a gas station Wednesday night, according to a police report.
Orane M. Harrow, 34, of Hollywood, is accused of fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, driving an unregistered motor vehicle and displaying an unassigned license plate, according to a police report filed by the Boca Raton Police Department this week. According to the report, the officer observed a black Nissan Altima with Virginia plates pull out of the Mobil gas station at 8081 Congress Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. May 14 without coming to a complete stop at the stop sign.
The officer activated his emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle instead accelerated “at a high rate of speed” through a red light at Congress Avenue and the I-95 southbound ramp, the report states. The officer briefly pursued the vehicle, which was allegedly weaving in and out of traffic, before disengaging in order to avoid a dangerous high-speed chase on the highway.
A short time later, state troopers located the Altima and successfully pulled him over in the southbound lanes of I-95. Harrow, identified as a Jamaican national, was identified as the driver and taken into custody. The vehicle was not registered, and the Virginia plate was not assigned to it, the report said. Harrow was transported to the Palm Beach County Jail without incident.
Harrow remained lodged in the Palm Beach County Jail on Saturday in lieu of $6,250 combined bail for the three charges.
