A Boca Raton man was charged with DUI after being involved in a crash within the parking garage of an apartment complex.
Mohamed Mahmoud Mosalm, 67, is accused of striking two cars on the fifth floor of the parking deck at the CERU apartment complex on Congress Avenue at about 9:03 p.m. Aug. 19. Police arrived at the garage to find three cars damaged – a white Toyota SUV with “severe front-end damage” parked diagonally in a space with the two other vehicles parked with damage on either side.
According to a police report, Mosalm was driving the SUV, which contained a spilled beer bottle on the rear floor with condensation around it. A prescription bottle of Xanax pills was also found in a storage slot near the door, the report said. The prescription was legally prescribed.
Mosalm allegedly told police he was driving for Uber and passengers left the beer cans in his car, and he uses the prescription as intended. Police said, however, that Mosalm had “slurred speech and glassy eyes” and was unsteady on his feet. The report said he failed a field sobriety test but passed a breathalyzer test with zero alcohol in his system. A blood sample was taken to investigate potential intoxication, and officers charged Mosalm with DUI resulting in damage to property.
Police said he passed a medical evaluation and was released on $1,000 bond.
