New Jersey Man Arrested for DUI Manslaughter in Fatal Crash Along A1A in Boca Raton

A New Jersey man is facing charges following his alleged involvement in a fatal accident along North Ocean Boulevard (A1A) in Boca Raton Sunday morning.

Thomas Vayiano, 35, of Brick Township, N.J., was was arrested Sunday and charged with DUI Manslaughter after his vehicle collided with a bicyclist who was traveling northbound in the bicycle lane along the 1400 block of North Ocean Boulevard, just after 7 a.m., according to Officer Jessica Desir.

The bicyclist, 41- year-old Felipe Soares De Moraes, died at the scene. According to a statement from Boca Raton police, a witness reported that moments before the collision, a gray 2019 Chevrolet Equinox, was observed failing to maintain a lane.

On scene, a DUI investigation was conducted and as a result, Vayianos was placed under arrest, Desir said. He remains lodged in the Palm Beach County Jail. Cash bond has been set at $150,000.
