Boca Raton’s Mizner Park district will be receiving a number of improvements and a new look to provide a more cohesive theme as the city prepares for events marking its centennial in 2025.

The city’s Community Redevelopment Agency on Monday approved a resolution appropriating $800,000 toward the improvements, which will be carried out in the publicly-owned areas of the development. Mizner Park’s developer, Crocker Downtown Development Associates, will oversee the work.

Improvements to be funded by the CRA include fountain resurfacing and enhancements, painting and color changeouts, landscape planting and irrigation improvements, sod replacement, paver additions, gazebo restoration and electrical upgrades.

“Due to the age and condition of the infrastructure, both parties agree that upgrades and enhancements are necessary to the publicly owned areas to meet the appropriate standard of care and to ensure Mizner Park’s role as a focal point in the downtown,” said Ruby Riley, downtown development manager for the city.

Improvements and a freshening of Mizner Park’s infrastructure was first contemplated in 2022, but has been determined to be of an even greater importance now that the city’s centennial celebration is coming together. In addition to the most prominent items, benches, trash bins and light poles will receive a fresh look as well.

“When the railings were repainted to the black shade at the amphitheater, we thought it was best to bring that color scheme across the publicly owned areas,” said Riley. “We had kind of a hodgepodge of colors – some things were blue, some things were green – so all of the benches and trash bins, as well as the light fixtures, will all be painted that black trim color.”

The gazebos, among the most striking features in the median that runs its way through the district, will likewise be repainted with a black color and gold trim to match the theme of the amphitheater.

Riley said the privately-owned portions of Mizner Park will likely see similar improvements and its own matching color scheme, though the timing will have to be coordinated with its owner, Brookfield Properties.
