UPDATE: Boca Raton Police Officer Involved in Shooting, Downtown Streets Reopened

UPDATE 5 p.m.: Roads have been reopened following the incident.

ORIGINAL STORY: A Boca Raton police officer was involved in a shooting near city hall just before noon on Wednesday, officials said.

Few details were known about the incident by 2:30 p.m., however police were setting up a media staging area along NW 2nd Avenue and a press conference was expected at some point. According to public announcements from police, an investigation into an officer-involved shooting began at 11:58 a.m. in the area of NW 2nd Avenue and NW 2nd Street near the city hall complex.

Unconfirmed reports suggested the person who was shot is deceased, and the condition of the officer involved was not immediately known. Florida Department of Law Enforcement personnel were on the scene.

Roads remain closed in the downtown area as the investigation continues. Police tape and marked SUVs with emergency lights blocked several roadways, primarily NW 2nd Avenue (Boca Raton Blvd.) from Palmetto Park Road to NE 2nd Street. Police said there was no threat to the public and the scene was “contained,” though the investigation is ongoing.
