The animals at the Palm Beach Zoo will be safer and happier in the near future, with funding on the way for improvements to the facility’s infrastructure and security.

State Rep. Peggy Gossett-Seidman announced Tuesday that her office had secured $950,000 in state funding for the Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society to strengthen animal habitats, improve safety, and expand conservation infrastructure. The funding will support a sizable package of improvements designed to protect the zoo’s 400,000 annual visitors, 100-plus staff members, and more than 500 animals. The enhancements include:

  • Installation of a mass notification system.
  • New access controls, security cameras, fencing, and lighting.
  • A fiber optic network for improved monitoring and communication.
  • Measures to reduce stormwater runoff, restore wetlands, and advance natural resource conservation.
  • Upgrades to “improve the health and well-being of both wild and zoo animal residents.”
  • Restoration of PB Zoo’s Baker Lake & surrounding wetland areas to their native state

“Palm Beach Zoo is honored to work alongside Representative Gossett-Seidman, whose love for nature, the environment, and this Zoo shines through in everything she does,” said Margo McKnight, President & CEO of Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society.

“The Palm Beach Zoo is a pillar of our community — protecting wildlife, educating families, and welcoming hundreds of thousands of visitors each year,” Gossett-Seidman said. “These enhancements will ensure the Zoo remains a safe, sustainable, and inspiring place for generations to come.”
