A significant escarpment – a small “cliff” that forms due to breaking waves – measured several feet in height by Monday afternoon, as the National Weather Service extended several marine advisories. The NWS also increased its wave height forecast, stating that large breaking waves of 7 to 10 feet would be present in the surf zone through Thursday night.

Dangerous rip currents were also forecast through Thursday night, spurring “dangerous” swimming conditions and more beach erosion. Additionally, a wind advisory was issued until 1 a.m. Wednesday, calling for east winds of 20 to 30 m.p.h. with gusts up to 40 m.p.h. expected.

“Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects,” the statement said. “Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.”

Tuesday was forecast to bring partly sunny conditions, mixed with showers. Overall, there was a 50 percent chance of rain with a high of 84 degrees forecast. A quarter of an inch of rain could fall Tuesday, with some amounts higher due to localized thunderstorms which remain a possibility. The wind was forecast to continue through Wednesday, which will bring cloudy skies and an even higher chance of showers and thunderstorms.
