UPDATE: Sept. 21, 3 p.m.: An arrest has been made in the case, police announced. This is covered in a separate story.

UPDATE Sept. 21, 1 a.m.: Police announced that the scene has been cleared and traffic has reopened in both directions along N. Ocean Boulevard.

Original Story: Boca Raton police said a deadly shooting Friday evening occurred in the parking lot of a hotel along N. Ocean Boulevard (A1A).

“At this point in the investigation, it appears there was some type of dispute in the parking lot of 365 N. Ocean Blvd, which is an extended stay hotel,” police said in a statement. “The suspect left the area and investigators are following up.”

Boca Raton police have been blocking off A1A and are diverting traffic near South Beach Park following the shooting, which left two people dead and sent one to a hospital, police confirmed. The traffic detours were still in effect at 9 p.m. Friday night.

The incident was characterized as a “disturbance” by police. Police said via social media that the shooting occurred “along the 300 block” of the roadway. The address of the disturbance corresponds to 365 Ocean, described as a 20-room extended stay boutique hotel.

Ocean Boulevard (A1A) was closed from Palmetto Park Road to approximately 800 N. Ocean Boulevard, with police redirecting traffic to side streets closer to the Intracoastal Waterway.

A police helicopter was also deployed Friday afternoon, however that appears to be linked to a separate incident involving a robbery at the Boca Town Center mall on Glades Road.
