South Inlet Park’s beach has been reopened to swimming after water samples showed the area was clear of bacteria.
The park remained open this week, but swimming was prohibited after higher-than-acceptable counts of Enterococcus bacteria were found following recent rainstorms. South Inlet Park, like most beaches open to swimming, is routinely checked by the Palm Beach County division of the Florida Department of Health’s water monitoring program.
The beaches were reopened Thursday after tests completed by the department on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025, indicated that the water quality at South Inlet Park shows an acceptable level of Enterococcus bacteria established by state guidelines. A reading of 70.5 or more cells per milliliter of water results in a “poor” rating for Enterococcus bacteria. The reading from the Sept. 24 check revealed “moderate” levels of bacteria, measuring between 35.5 and 70.4 cells per milliliter.
