Boca Raton Fire-Rescue officials have confirmed three fatalities in the crash of a small plane in Boca Raton Friday morning, with traffic still snarled in the center of the city. Police also said one person on the ground was injured, however those injuries were not life-threatening.
By 1:30 p.m., N. Military Trail between NW 19th St. and Butts Rd remains closed. The I-95 overpass at Glades Road remains closed eastbound and westbound, and road closures will remain “into the foreseeable future,” police said in a statement.
Tri-Rail said a bus bridge has been established between the Deerfield Beach and Boca Raton Stations. Rail service will continue south of Deerfield and north of Boca Raton, however riders may want to seek alternative transportation due to expected delays.
The FAA and NTSB were both on-scene investigating the circumstances of the crash, which occurred at about 10:20 a.m. and involved a Cessna 310R transiting from Boca Raton Airport to Tallahassee. The plane “had apparently some mechanical issues and went down here on Military Trail,” said Boca Raton Fire-Rescue Assistant Chief Michael LaSalle. “Also, there was a car on the ground.”

The vehicle hit a tree due to the falling debris from the plane, however the driver suffered only minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, LaSalle said.
