A Miami man was charged with felony theft, petit theft and possession of an antishoplifting device after he was allegedly caught by security officers at a Boca Raton store stealing cologne.

Wilfredo Colina, 56, of Miami, was arrested by Boca Raton police Feb. 23 at about 1 p.m. after officers were called to the Nordstrom Rack store on Glades Road.

According to a police report filed with the court, officers arrived at the store to find a man later identified as Colina being detained in the store’s loss prevention office. A loss prevention officer told police he saw Colina select four bottles of “Gucci Guilty” cologne valued at $459. He is alleged to have concealed the cologne in a white bag and left the store, where security officers confronted him.

The report stated Colina tried to “push his way past” two loss prevention officers, who were able to grab him by the wrist to detain him. He allegedly tried to escape, forcing the security officers to bring him to the ground until police arrived. The report further stated that a pair of wire cutters fell out of Colina’s pocket during the encounter.

After being arrested with the assistance of a Delray Beach police officer who acted as a Spanish translater, Colina was identified as having an active warrant from Broward County and two previous convictions for retail theft.

Colina was lodged in the Palm Beach County jail as of Tuesday afternoon.
