The Salt Life clothing brand, which skyrocketed to national stature after being founded in Jacksonville in 2003, will close all of its retail stores, including one in Boca Raton and others in Palm Beach County and the local area.

Salt Life operates its local store in Mizner Park. It is one of more than two dozen closing nationwide.

The coastal and fishing-themed clothing brand was sold at auction Sept. 16 for $$38.74 million after declaring bankruptcy. Its new owner, Iconix International, plans to shift the company’s focus to digital sales and wholesale operations.

“An organized wind-down of many operational functions will take place over the course of the next few months to aid in the transition, including the closure of the Salt Life retail locations and the sale of inventory from distribution center,” said the consulting firm Hillco, in a statement.

“Store Closing” and discount signs could be seen in the front window of the Boca Raton store on Friday.

Savings of up to 40 percent are being offered on Salt Life products including tees, shorts, performance clothing, hoodies, and tumblers, among other items. Store fixtures and equipment are also for sale at discounted prices. Gift cards will be accepted for the first 30 days of the sale and will stop being accepted on Oct. 20, 2024.

In addition to the Boca Raton location, Salt Life stores due to close are located in Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, Pompano Beach and Ft. Lauderdale.
